Check current filter condition (hold up to light — if you can't see through it, replace it)

Note filter size for easy replacement

Choose correct MERV rating (8-11 for most homes, 13+ for allergies)

Set filter replacement reminder (every 30-90 days)

Ensure filter is installed in correct direction (check arrow on frame)

Check outside dryer vent flap opens when dryer runs

If the flap doesn't open, the vent is clogged — fire hazard!

Feel for adequate airflow at exterior vent

Clean lint trap before EVERY load (non-negotiable)

Check dryer vent hose for kinks or crushing behind dryer
